Refund checks are generated when a student shows a negative balance on their account after all aid has been applied.
A student can check their balance through Self-Service by looking under “Account Summary”.
The balance you see on the first page of this summary in Self-Service currently shows the anticipated balance after all Financial Aid has been applied. Select the current semester on the bottom of the page to see your balance in detail.
Note that all aid is “anticipated” until the funds have been disbursed to King’s College.
Please remember that aid is disbursed at different times and once your account shows a credit balance (not anticipated) a refund check will be generated.
The refund process will begin one week after the drop/add date for the semester and will continue throughout the semester as financial aid is disbursed to student accounts.
Refunds will be processed once a week. If the student has a refund available, they will receive an email stating that it is available and that they can pick it up at the Business Office.
The check will be available in the Business Office for pick up for one week. If the check has not been picked up by then, it will be mailed to the address on file.
The student can also choose to have the check mailed immediately by replying to the email.
If the credit balance is generated as the result of a Parent Plus loan, the borrower/parent had the option during the application process to select whether any credit balances should be returned to the borrower or the student.
If the borrower is selected, the check will automatically be mailed to them without email notification to the student. Otherwise, the student will receive the notification email.
