King’s College today announced that it raised more than $250,000 in support of student success from the inaugural Red & Gold Gala held May 10, 2025, at Mohegan Pennsylvania.
The event also celebrated the institution’s first Presidential Award honorees, including Timothy J. Morris ’64, a 30-year member of the board of directors who received the Philanthropy Award, and Thomas R. Smith ’77, who has been chair of the board since 2010 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award. McCarthy Tire Service, a family-owned company that has operated for almost 100 years under the leadership of multiple generations of King’s College alumni, received the Organizational Excellence Award.
The new annual gala serves as the College’s signature fundraising event. Proceeds benefit the KC Fund, a critical resource that supports enhancements to student success, academic support, faculty development, community outreach, and scholarships. The KC Fund is a pivotal part of the College's new strategic plan.
Nearly 450 alumni, students, employees, and esteemed guests enjoyed raffle and silent auction prizes, dinner, awards ceremony, and dancing.
“As expected, the pride of our King’s community was on full display throughout the evening as we celebrated the College and the people who help make the institution great,” said Greg Morgan, vice president for institutional advancement. “Through related charitable activities, generous donations, and sponsorships, the event raised more than $250,000—a resounding financial success for the first event of its kind at the institution.”
“The unique and powerful community spirit that makes King’s such an amazing institution was so evident at the gala,” said Rev. Thomas P. Looney, C.S.C, Ph.D., president of the College. “Everyone—including the Presidential Award recipients and the students who were able to attend through sponsorships from alumni and friends—experienced the joy, excitement, and passion of being a member of the King’s family.”This year’s gala—with presenting sponsor M&T Bank—was co-chaired by board member Cassandra Coleman ’10 and former president Rev. Thomas O’Hara, C.S.C., Ph.D. ’71, with the master of ceremonies being Jarrett Ferentino ’00, a prominent trial lawyer and partner at Pugliese, Finnegan, Shaffer & Ferentino.
The Red & Gold Gala is the College’s second largest fundraising event alongside the annual Rev. James Lackenmier Award for Achievement and Leadership, which supports the Presidential Hope Fund.
