Music Ensembles
Each of our music ensembles has its own purpose and niche at King's. Discover which ensemble fits your interest and know you can be involved in more than one if you so choose. For any questions, or to express interest in any of the below programs, do not hesitate to contact Rob Yenkowski, Director of Music, at robertyenkowski@kings.edu.
Cantores Christi Regis
Cantores Christi Regis (CCR) is the premiere performance choir on campus and builds upon the traditions set forth by the previous King's choirs, The Men in Red and Les Chanteuse. The camaraderie between students makes this ensemble a unique experience at King's and many students make friendships that last long after they graduate. To many members, CCR is a family.
CCR performs two concerts each year and sings at various events on and off campus. The music is a mixture of sacred, secular, classical, and modern pieces, including both jazz and modern hits. The choir rehearses two to three times a week, with each rehearsal lasting approximately 90 minutes.
Prospective members must audition. The audition consists of singing a song of your choice, "Happy Birthday," and a warm-up to ensure proper vocal placement.
Interested students should sign-up at the beginning of each academic year for an audition time by contacting Director Rob Yenkowski. In the meantime, make sure to follow us on Facebook or check out our SoundCloud here.
CCR has made my King's experience so much better. I met most of my friends in CCR, and I couldn't imagine not having them in my life. Singing also helps me relax from my busy academic life and gives me a break from my hectic days. It usually is my favorite part of the day and I always look forward to it. — Abby Cooke
Christian Voices
This non-audition choral ensemble serves as the College's chapel choir and sings every Sunday during the academic year at the 8 p.m. Mass. In addition, Christian Voices (CV) sings at other liturgical celebrations such as memorial masses, Taizé Prayer, and other services that form a vital part of the fabric of worship on campus.
CV is comprised of students from various backgrounds brought together by their common joy of music and faith. Students bring with them not only their vocal abilities, but also their individual personalities to create a joyful, prayerful liturgy, helping all to sing in praise of God and to transform our lives.
The ensemble sings chant to contemporary church music and rehearses weekly for approximately 75 minutes.
Ministry of Cantor
The Ministry of Cantor is a musical ministry at King's. With roots in the synagogue tradition, the cantor has become an important ministry by serving the worshiping community as leader of sung prayer and Psalmist at all Sunday Masses. The Ministry of Cantor helps to lead the faithful into full, conscious, and active participation in the liturgy.
There is no experience necessary to become a cantor. New cantors will participate in a short training program to prepare them to minister through song at Mass. While no formal audition is necessary, each prospective cantor will sing vocal exercises for the director to ensure they can fulfill the needs of this ministry.
Instrumentalists
While there is no official ensemble for instrumentalists at King's, there are opportunities for non-vocalists. Instrumentalists can play for Sunday Mass and occasionally for choir concerts, as well as participate in the pit orchestra for the annual musical production in conjunction with the King's College Theatre Department.

What types of performances do the ensembles do?
CCR performs two concerts each year. They also sing for various college events such as the Silver Century Club Christmas Party and the President's Dinner. CV sings weekly at the 8 p.m. Sunday Mass as well as special prayer services throughout the year.
All ensembles sing for our large college events such as the Convocation Mass, which is the opening Mass for the school year, and our Baccalaureate Mass which is our Graduation Mass. To make these celebrations the best we can, both ensembles perform together.
