More than 90 students received their bachelor’s and master’s degrees today before family, friends, and faculty during the King’s College Summer Commencement at the William S. Scandlon Physical Education Center.
Margaret Monahan Hogan, Ph.D., a nationally recognized ethicist and former King’s College faculty member, delivered the keynote address. During her time at King’s, Hogan chaired the Philosophy Department and founded the Center for Ethics and Public Life. Throughout her career, she has championed ethical leadership and strengthened the role of faith and reason in higher education.
Neil T. O’Donnell, Esq., ’84, serves on the board of directors as second vice chair at King’s College and gave the welcome address.
“King’s College trains professions that have always been defined by dutiful service. A King’s education teaches you not only how to make a living, but how to live,” said O’Donnell. “But no innovation – no Artificial Intelligence – will ever replace a reassuring hand, careful listening, thoughtful judgment, and genuine compassion.”
The event concluded with remarks from Rev. Thomas P. Looney, C.S.C., Ph.D., president of King’s College.
“Graduates, I cannot imagine a more faith-filled, family-oriented, mission-focused, spirited- academic, and truth-lover than Dr. Margaret Hogan. Her mind and her heart inspired hundreds of King’s College students to be passionate in discerning what is true, beautiful, and good,” said Father Looney. “I am so grateful to her for her words today. May you be inspired as I have been to live a life of integrity, meaning, and purpose.”
Jacqueline Frances Costello, a graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Accelerated Nursing program, gave the invocation. Father Brogan Ryan, C.S.C., director of campus ministry, gave the benediction. Joseph Evan, Ph.D., ’95, provost and vice president for academic affairs, conferred the degrees.
