Damsel in a Dress Returns March 14 at King’s College to Provide Free Formalwear to the Local Community

Event Logo
Damsel in a Dress is returning to King’s College for its third consecutive year, continuing its mission of providing free donated formalwear to students and members of the wider community.

Attendees can browse a range of gowns, dresses, and accessories at no cost in preparation for upcoming formal occasions, including prom, commencement balls, and other special events. No registration is required.

The event takes place on Saturday, March 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Scandlon Gymnasium. Designated fitting areas will be available, and a Spanish interpreter will be on-site to assist attendees. Light refreshments will be provided courtesy of King’s College and door prizes will be donated by local businesses, including corsages and beauty salon gift certificates.

“Our goal is to make sure cost is never the reason anyone misses out on a special occasion,” said Susan Ashelman, one of the event organizers. “Events like prom or other formal celebrations are memories people carry for a lifetime, and it’s rewarding for us to help them feel confident and celebrated on these important days.”

Organizers are now accepting donations to help make this year’s event a success. Community members are invited to contribute gowns, cocktail dresses, evening bags, dress shoes, and other formalwear essentials to expand the selection.

Donations can be dropped off in the Alley Center lobby or the Campus Post Office at King’s College, as well as several community partner locations, including The Barn in Shavertown, Changes Consignment Shop in Scranton, The Local Emporium Co. in Tunkhannock, The Blooming Barn in Hunlock Creek, and Back Mountain Makery in Dallas.
