Dr. Tara J. Shawver, DBA, CMA, professor of accounting and chair, Kearney & Company Department of Accounting and Finance—along with coauthors Dr. William Miller, CPA, CGMA, University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, and Dr. Steven Mintz, California Polytechnic State University—won the IMA | Institute of Management Accountants Best Case Award in the 19th annual Carl Menconi Case Writing Competition for their case, “The Art of the Close.”
The Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) is a global professional association dedicated to advancing the management accounting profession. The competition works to develop and distribute teaching cases focused on business ethics with a specific application to management accounting and finance issues. The case will be published in the August issue of Strategic Finance and will be available for use in a classroom or business setting.
Dr. Shawver has published over 40 academic journal articles. Her articles that have appeared in Accounting Education, Journal of Business Ethics, Research on Professional Responsibility and Ethics in Accounting, Journal of Forensic Accounting, Journal of Forensic and Investigative Accounting, Journal of Business Disciplines, Management Accounting Quarterly, Advances in Management, Journal of Forensic Studies in Accounting and Business, and Global Perspectives on Accounting Education. Her research interests include accounting education, financial reporting, ethics, whistleblowing, and fraud. She has been recognized and won awards for her teaching, research, and service to the accounting academy.
