Jahmeel Powers, M.F.A. (he/him), is an actor, director, and assistant professor of theatre at King’s College. A Michigan native, he is a proud alumnus of Eastern Michigan University (2013). He is also a proud former resident of Virginia Beach, Va., where he is an alumnus of Regent University (2018). Both institutions have been pivotal in his passion for integrating his three passions: the arts, education, and his faith. His acting training allowed him to take multiple professional contracts across the country, like Maine, Michigan, Virginia, New York, and internationally as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (2018) in "The Servant of Two Masters". He is also an avid fan of all things comedy, especially improvisation.
Jahmeel is an experienced and passionate improviser, trained in both short-form and long-form methodologies. He has worked with several improv troupes and groups, from local college groups to more nationally known entities such as "The Dinner Detective", Planet Ant Theatre, and Comedysportz Detroit. In the community, Jahmeel and his wife, Elizabeth Powers, both serve on the Gaslight Theatre Board of Directors, and offer freelance acting coaching through their business, Powers Performance Coaching (2020 Finalist: Young Professional Award for Entrepreneur of the Year). Powers Performance has collaborated with over a dozen local theatres, organizations, and colleges, offering workshops in acting, stage combat, improv, etc. With his free time, he likes to relax and make magical memories with his incredible wife and their three wonderful children.
