King’s College’s baccalaureate degree programs in nursing have successfully attained 10-year accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), which is recognized nationally and is a requirement for licensure and employment in healthcare settings.
King’s College launched the dual degrees in Nursing program in 2018 in partnership with Luzerne County Community College (LCCC). This unique 1+2+1 pathway enables students to complete their associate degree at LCCC in the first three years, take the NCLEX-RN exam, and then work as registered nurses while finishing their Bachelor of Science in Nursing coursework online at King’s College. The College also offers two other distinct nursing programs.
The accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing hybrid program is designed for individuals who already hold a bachelor's degree in another field but wish to become registered nurses in just one year. The hybrid format combines online coursework with on-campus labs and clinical experiences, providing both flexibility and comprehensive training in a shorter amount of time and at less cost than comparable programs.
The RN to B.S. in Nursing program caters to registered nurses seeking to advance their education and career opportunities with fully online courses that can be completed in as few as 12 months, depending on the student's pace.
These programs are designed to accommodate various student backgrounds and career goals, providing flexible and accessible pathways to a nursing career. The CCNE accreditation ensures all meet high standards of quality and rigor, providing students with a solid foundation for their nursing careers.
"Receiving the full 10-year accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education is a testament to the exceptional quality and dedication of our faculty, students, and clinical partners,” said Billie Burry, Ph.D., CRNP, FNP-BC, Associate Dean of Nursing at King’s College. “This recognition affirms our commitment to excellence in nursing education, and it ensures that our graduates are well-prepared to meet the complex demands of today’s healthcare environment with competence, compassion, and integrity.”
The College’s robust nursing program prepares students for various roles in healthcare and emphasizes a humanistic approach to nursing, integrating liberal arts education to foster critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and social responsibility. Students engage in hands-on learning experiences through clinical placements and community service, enhancing their practical skills and understanding of diverse patient needs.
The accreditation visit from the peer review team included a comprehensive onsite evaluation, which encompassed an initial review of the accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing hybrid program and a continuation review of the RN to B.S. in Nursing program, along with two-and-a-half days of interviews with administration, faculty, staff, students, and community partners. CCNE’s Board of Commissioners determined that the program substantially complied with all four accreditation standards, effective as of September 30, 2024.
The dual degrees in Nursing program is still accepting applications for the Fall 2025 academic year. Applications are also open for RN to B.S. in Nursing program (for registered nurses) for Fall 2025. The accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing hybrid program (for bachelor’s degree holders) is accepting applications for fall 2026. To learn more or apply, visit our Nursing program page.
