King’s to host annual Maffei Family High School Shakespeare Competition

March 29, 2018 - King’s College Theatre Department will host the annual George P. and Giovita Maffei Family High School Shakespeare Competition on Saturday, April 28, and Sunday, April 29, in the George P. Maffei II Theatre. High school students will participate in acting competitions for cash prizes by presenting material from Shakespearean literature in various artistic forms. 

Poetry In Transit Program Seeks Submissions For Annual Poetry Competition

March 29, 2018 – The award-winning community program “Poetry In Transit” is sponsoring their annual poetry competition for creative artists. Winning poems will be selected from a panel of judges representing the local colleges in Northeastern Pennsylvania and will then be featured on advertising displays inside Luzerne County Transportation Authority (LCTA) buses.

Award-winning writer Kenny Fries to give free public reading at King’s College

March 27, 2018 – Award-winning writer Kenny Fries will read excerpts from his latest memoir, “In the Province of the Gods,” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, in the Burke Auditorium at King’s College. The event is free and open to the public. Fries is the 2017-18 Visiting Writer, a program sponsored by the College’s English Department. He will also work with English students on their creative writing as part of a two-day campus residency.

King's awards tenure to 6 faculty members

March 26, 2018 – Six King's College faculty members were recently granted tenure by the College’s Board of Directors. Granted tenure and promoted to associate professor were Deborah Carr, Ed.D., education; Chad Hogg, Ph.D., computer science; Janine Janoski, Ph.D., mathematics; Frank Varriale, Ph.D., biology; Scott J. Weiland, Ph.D., mass communications; and Sunny Minelli Weiland, Ph.D., education.  

Carol Scholl named Graphic Designer, Writer in Office of Marketing & Communication at King’s

March 21, 2018 – Carol Scholl of Luzerne has been named a graphic designer and writer in the Office of Marketing and Communications at King’s College. She will be primarily responsible for producing publications for various offices on campus, conceptualizing and designing promotional pieces, and writing and editing content. In addition, she also will be responsible for general administrative and management tasks for assigned projects. 

Wilkes-Barre native Frank Wengen to showcase watercolor paintings in Widmann Gallery at King’s

March 21, 2018 – Wilkes-Barre native Frank Wengen will display a variety of transparent watercolor paintings during a free public exhibition, titled “Serene Scenery: Elevating the Everyday Landscape,” to be held from Monday, April 2, through Friday, April 27, in the Widmann Gallery at King’s College.
