October 28, 2014 – Rev. Mark Cregan, C.S.C., immigration lawyer and former president of Stonehill College, will discuss United States immigration policy from a perspective of Catholic social teaching at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, in the Burke Auditorium at King’s College.

The free public lecture, titled “U.S. Immigration Policy and the Christian Understanding of the Common Good,” is co-sponsored by King’s Office of Campus Ministry, the Department of Economics, and the McGowan Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility.

In discussing U.S. policy, Father Cregan will draw from his real-life practical experience of assisting immigrants, Catholic teaching on the rights and responsibilities of migrants, and the rights and responsibilities of receiving nations.

Before being appointed president at Stonehill in 2000, Father Cregan served as the pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in the Bronx, N.Y. While administering Sacred Heart Parish, Father Cregan maintained a general practice law office, serving low-income clients with immigration, family, estate and real estate problems.  He has also maintained a private practice of law with offices in New York and in Massachusetts since 1993; he represents clients in the areas of Immigration, Elder, Tax, and Family Law, as well as serving as counsel to tax-exempt organizations.

Father Cregan left Stonehill in 2013. He is the second longest-serving president in the College's history.

Father Cregan holds a master of divinity degree from the University of St. Michael's College at the Toronto School of Theology (University of Toronto) and a juris doctor degree from Brooklyn Law School. He joined the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1975 and was ordained a Catholic priest in 1983. He is active in the administrative life of the Eastern Province of the Congregation of Holy Cross.
