February 27, 2017 – King’s College will host a free public screening of “Aranyadeb,” a Bengali feature film about two friends living in Kolkata who share the same soul, at 2 p.m., on Monday, March 13, in Room 90 of the Mulligan Physical Science Center. The film’s director, Debasish Sen Sharma, will introduce the film and lead an interactive session afterwards with the audiences. The event is sponsored by the Public Policy and Social Research Institute at King’s.

“Aranyadeb” follows the story of two ordinary men, Aranya and Deb, who have an extraordinary connection: they share the same soul. While one considers himself to be a superhero, the other is a hero within his family, studies and career. When the two are destined to reunite at the age of 40, something magical happens that will change the courses of their lives forever. The film’s theme is about the search to find the real superheroes of the world, whether it be around us or within ourselves.

Debasish Sen Sharma began his career as an advertising professional, became a freelance journalist, and finally gave shape to his ideas using an audio visual medium. He debuted his first feature film, “Bicycle Kick,” in 2013, and has directed several documentaries, including “Matir Kella” (2011) and “Poter Pachali” (2008). A Calcutta-based director, he is currently touring the United States to promote his film.

The Mulligan Physical Science Center is located on the corner of N. River and W. Jackson streets. For more information please contact Dr. Beth Admiraal, associate professor of political science and director of the Public Policy and Social Research Institute at King’s, at (570) 208-5900, ext. 5754 or email bethadmiraal@kings.edu.
