You must be actively enrolled as full-time
• You must have at least 12 credits (undergraduate student) or 9 credits (graduate student)
• No more than 1 ON-LINE course of 3 credits or less can be taken during the spring or fall semester.
• You must attend all your classes. Attendance is proof that you are here studying, as you told the consular officer in your home country you would be. Registering for the class in not enough, you must attend regardless of the professor’s attendance policy and/or if you are not passing.

Passing classes will maintain your status
• To be a student in good standing, you must pass your classes. Failure to make adequate progress toward finishing your program could cause you to lose your status. If you fail an undergraduate course you can repeat it for a new grade, but repeated failure will result in loss of status.

Always keep your documentation in order
• It is very important for you to make sure you save all of your I-20’s, even if they are old ones. They are proof of your legal status in the Unites States.
• You should have your documents with you, if you are traveling out of the country or around the United States.
**Remember to check your passport, visa and I-20 every semester to make sure everything is up-to-date.

F-1 visa holders are not allowed to work without authorization
• You may not be involved in any type of business even if you do not earn a salary. For example, you may not buy and sell products or buy and send products to your home country or work for Door Dash/Uber type companies. 
• There are limited cases where F-1 students are allowed to work. Please see ISS with questions. 

SEVIS registration every Fall and Spring semester
• You must check-in with International Student Services (ISS) at the beginning of EACH Fall and Spring semester to be registered in the SEVIS system. This must be filled out in the link you receive the beginning of each semester. 

Get a travel signature from ISS each time you plan to travel outside the United States.
• You get a signature BEFORE you leave. If you do not have this signature on your I-20 you will not be permitted to return to the United States. The signature is valid for one year from the date signed. 

Always provide ISS your new phone number, new address, and/or new financial support documents.
• The U.S. Government requires that you update any changes to your phone number, address, and financial support within 10 days of the change. This can be done through the same link you register with each semester. 

Visit ISS to get a new I-20 for any of the following:
• If you plan to transfer to another school
• If you need to drop classes due to medical reasons or family emergencies 
• If you are changing your major
• If you will continue to study in a new degree program
• If you change finances
• If you need a program extension

Do not overstay your status
• When you complete your program of study, you have a 60-day grace period from the end date of your I-20.

• You MUST check your King’s email! Your professors and other King’s College Administration will only use your King’s email to be in touch with you.
