Irene Argiris
Psychology and Spanish Double Major
Class of 2019
Alicante, Spain

How did you select your Study/Intern Abroad location?

I wanted to go to a Spanish speaking country, but I wasn't sure where. I selected Alicante, Spain through the study abroad office at King’s College. They helped me find a list of programs that would be good for me.

Why did you want to study or intern abroad?

I wanted to study abroad because I wanted to improve my language skills in Spanish and learn more about the culture. I also wanted to get out of my comfort zone.

What were the most memorable experiences of your time abroad?

The day trip excursions to Guadalest and Valencia. For one of the weekends, I took a trip to Barcelona with some of my friends.

What surprised you the most about yourself/the trip throughout your experience?

I was surprised how quickly I adjusted to the environment and to my classes.

How has (or how might) this experience affect your major and future career?

It definitely made me appreciate the culture more, and it helped me gain more confidence in my speaking abilities.

What would you tell students considering studying or interning abroad?

Just go for it. It might be hard at first because you will be around new people, and it’ll take some time to adjust. You will adjust though and it will be worth the period of discomfort. If you have the chance to stay with a host family, be open with them because they will get to know you better and they want to be there for you.
