October 9, 2017 - King’s students Frank Commisso, Jocelyn Mastaler, Leah Merrick, and Kristen Hudak have been awarded the Peyton Walker Foundation Scholarship, a scholarship that was created to aid physician assistant students.
October 2, 2017 - Nicholas Cafardi, Dean Emeritus and professor of law at Duquesne University, will deliver the 2017 Feast of Saint Francis Lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, in the Burke Auditorium at King’s College. The free public lecture, titled “Revising Faithful Citizenship,” is sponsored by the McGowan Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility at King’s.
September 27, 2017 - King’s College earned high marks for student outcomes and engagement in the second annual college rankings released by “The Wall Street Journal” in conjunction with Times Higher Education.
September 26, 2017 - Sister Simone Campbell, executive director of NETWORK and organizer of several “Nuns on the Bus” tours, will discuss “Practicing Faith and Justice in Polarizing Times” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, in the Burke Auditorium of the McGowan School of Business at King’s College. The event is open to the public free of charge.
September 26, 2017 - King’s College Professor of History Brian A. Pavlac will discuss fundamental problems of politics today in the light of the fictional troubles of the fantasy world created by George R. R. Martin in a free public lecture to be held from 12:00 to 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11 in the Postupak Room, located on the first floor of the McGowan School of Business. The McGowan School of Business is located at the corner of N. River and W. Union streets in Wilkes-Barre.
September 25, 2017 - Lorena Beniquez’s photographs are designed to preserve the anthracite history of Northeastern Pennsylvania landmarks, including the Huber Coal Breaker in Ashley, St. Nicholas Coal Breaker near Mahanoy City, Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, and Eckley Miners Village in Weatherly. She will display her collection of photographs during a free public exhibition, “The Last Coal Breaker,” from Monday, Oct. 2, through Friday, Nov. 3, in the Widmann Gallery at King’s College.
September 19, 2017 - The King’s College Theatre Department kicks off the season with performances of the Tony Award-nominated musical, “A Year With Frog and Toad,” at 7 p.m. Sept. 28-30, and Oct. 5-7, and at 1 p.m. Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in the George P. Maffei II Theatre. Designed for young audiences, the production will be offered by King’s Theatre with $3 discounted tickets for children 12-and-under during Thursday and Friday night performances.
September 18, 2017 - Dr. Christopher O’Brien has been appointed the inaugural Dean of Health Sciences at King’s College. He will oversee the faculty and curricular affairs of King’s health sciences programs, including physician assistant studies, athletic training, exercise science, and the College’s two newest health sciences programs: the RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program which begins in spring 2018, and the innovative 1+2+1 Dual Degrees in Nursing Program, a collaboration with Luzerne County Community College, beginning in fall 2018.
