King’s chemistry professor Dr. Elise Heiss awarded Moeller Research Grant

February 26, 2018 - Dr. Elise Heiss, assistant professor of chemistry at King’s College, recently received the Robert Estabrook Moeller Memorial Award to conduct research at Lacawac Sanctuary and Biological Field Station. The a $2,000 grant will support her research, “Nitrogen Cycling in Lake Lacawac: Investigating Environmental Controls on Water Column Nitrification.”

David Gibson of Fordham University to deliver annual Moreau Lecture at King’s

February 21, 2018 - David Gibson, director of the Center on Religion and Culture at Fordham University, will discuss stories of Catholic conversion and the legacy of Pope Francis during two free public presentations on Tuesday, March 20, as the 39th annual Moreau Lecturer at King’s College. The Moreau Lecture series at King’s is named in honor of Blessed Father Basil Anthony Moreau, founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross, which established and sponsors King’s College.

West Wyoming Resident Receives Spirit of Holy Cross Award

February 12, 2018 - Lucyann Skvarla, a West Wyoming resident who since 1978 has served in various positions at King’s College, was recently selected to receive the Spirit of Holy Cross Award, an annual recognition by the United States Province of Priests and Brothers of the critical importance lay people play in living out the vision and mission of Holy Cross founder Blessed Basil Moreau, C.S.C., to make God known, loved and served in education, parish and mission settings. 

King’s Theatre Department to perform Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’; Sophomore Ashley Surdovel lands lead role

February 6, 2018 - The King’s College Theatre Department will present its 68th annual Shakespeare production with arguably the Bard’s most famous tragedy, “Hamlet” at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 14-17 and 2 p.m. on Feb. 18 in the George P. Maffei II Theatre. King’s has offered theatre productions for local audiences since 1950, the college’s fourth year of existence.

Michele Geiser of Shavertown will display a variety of experimental and traditional nature and landscape photographs during the free public exhibition, titled “Eclectic Muses,” to be held from Monday, Feb. 26, through Monday, March 23, in the Widmann Gallery at King’s College. 

Briana Button named Community Outreach and Social Justice Coordinator at King’s College

February 2, 2018 - Briana Button of Mountain Top has been named community outreach and social justice programs coordinator at King’s College. She will be responsible for individual and group volunteer efforts at King’s, as well as managing the social justice education programs, such as Hunger for Justice Week.

January 10, 2018 - Author and “The New York Times” Senior Editor Mark Bulik will discuss “The Molly Maguires” and their historic labor movement during the annual Msgr. John J. Curran Lecture at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18, in the Burke Auditorium at King’s College.
