TOBACCO POLICY
Under the College's policy, a person should not ordinarily be exposed
to the harmful effects of passive smoking, except by personal choice.
Smoking and tobacco use is prohibited in all public areas, except those
specifically mentioned.
Public areas include corridors, lounges, stairwells, waiting rooms, restrooms,
classrooms, elevators, lobbies, and meeting rooms.
Smoking/tobacco use is allowed in the following areas: private offices,
although occupants are asked to be considerate of non-smokers who may
have a need to enter their office; and within individual apartments in
John Lane House and Leo Flood Hall. Smoking is prohibited in Esseff Hall,
Holy Cross Hall, Luksic Hall and the Sheehy-Farmer Campus Center.
Receptacles will be placed in outdoor areas on campus where smoking might
occur. Periodic reviews will be conducted to ensure that passive smoke
does not become problematic in any outdoor area. Smokers are requested
not to impede traffic by congregating near building entranceways.
While members of the community are expected to police themselves, violations
should be reported to the director of human resources, the appropriate
staff member responsible for overseeing the specific facility and/or the
vice president for student affairs.
Residence Halls and
College Apartments
Tobacco use will be restricted to apartments in Flood Hall and John Lane
House. Tobacco use is prohibited in Esseff, Holy Cross and Luksic Halls.
Tobacco use in Flood and Lane is not permitted in public areas, i.e.,
bathrooms, hallways, stairwells, or lounges. Students who choose a tobacco-use
option should only use tobacco products in their apartment with doors
closed. Violation of this policy will result in disciplinary action.
