ON MEDICAL/PSYCHOLOGICAL SUSPENSION FROM THE COLLEGE The College reserves the right to suspend students when their behavior or presence on the campus presents a threat to themselves or others. The College, through the associate vice president for student affairs in collaboration with the director of the counseling center, will determine if the student is to be suspended from the College until their medical or psychological issues can be addressed and the student is capable of returning to the college community. This policy specifically applies to the following conditions: 1. The student is a potential threat to self or other persons who may or may not be members of the College community; 2. The student has a contiguous disease and, in the opinion of medical personnel, can infect or transmit the illness to other persons on campus through normal daily contact; 3. The student's psychological state is interfering with his/her ability to achieve academically or live in an appropriate manner in the campus environment. The associate vice president for student affairs, once apprised of a situation, will talk with the student concerning the issue(s) the associate vice president may require, at the student's expense, a psychological evaluation or medical appraisal and, based on the information, may decide whether or not to suspend the student. If, in the view of the associate vice president, the student presents an immediate threat to the College community, they may be issued a temporary suspension pending psychological evaluation or medical appraisal. The student may appeal the associate vice president's decision within twenty-four hours to the vice president for student affairs. During the time of the appeal, the associate vice president may issue a temporary suspension. |
