ADVERTISING AND
POSTING
MATERIALS
The College makes available to student organizations, faculty, administration,
individuals and non-college associated groups, locations to post materials
on campus. The advertising and posting policy permits advertising of events
and services while allowing the college to maintain orderly posting areas.
The primary purpose of posting materials on campus is to provide information
for students. Materials will not be posted or distributed if:
o they advertise events or products that involve alco- holic beverages;
o they are deemed as offensive (i.e. racist, sexist or in poor taste).
The policy includes sections on: approval, restricted posting areas, removal
of materials, posting methods, the College Post Office and the Electronic
Display Board.
I. Approval
All materials posted on campus must be approved. In general, there are
three sources of materials that are posted.
Administration/Faculty notices: may be posted on bulletin boards as long
as the notice identifies the office that initiated the poster/sign.
Student Classes, Clubs and Organizations: may only post materials that
have been approved at the Student Activities Office. The Student Activities
Office must stamp the signs for approval and indicate the day the sign
will be removed.
Non-College Individuals and Groups: are to bring signs/notices to the
Public Relations Office for approval.
II. Restricted Posting
Areas
Specific departments have bulletin boards that they maintain for a specific
use. These restricted areas are:
Public Relations: glass casement on the first floor of the Administration
Building.
Academic Affairs: glass casements by the elevator on the first and sixth
floors in the Administration Building.
Career Planning and Placement Office: the bulletin board outside the office.
Experiential Learning/Honors: the bulletin board by the College Post Office.
Student Activities: the glass casement by the back entrance to the Administration
Building and the back of the information board near Hessel Hall.
Residence Halls: bulletin boards on residential floors unless approved
by the Residence Life Office.
III. Removal of Materials
The removal of outdated materials is the responsibility of the student
group or office that approved the postings. Offices will remove notices
from the following areas:
Restricted Posting Areas: the office responsible for that area
Sheehy-Farmer Campus Center: Student Activities Office
Residence Halls, John Lane House and Flood Hall: Residence Life staff
Scandlon Center: Athletic Director's Office
Administration/Science Buildings: Office of Public Relations
McCormick Campus Ministry Center: Campus Ministry Office
Corgan Library: Director of the Library Office
Other buildings: Building and Grounds personnel
Materials will be removed that are not approved, outdated or in poor condition.
IV. Posting Methods
Materials are not to be posted on painted surfaces, wall paper, or other
surfaces that may be damaged. When posting on glass windows, only scotch
tape is to be used. The hanging of banners must be approved by the director
of buildings and grounds. Posting materials on glass doors or areas adjoining
glass doors is prohibited. Any materials posted in these areas will be
removed.
V. College Post Office
The College Post Office distributes notices to faculty, staff and students.
The following guidelines apply:
Faculty/Administrative notices being distributed to all faculty/administration
or all full-time students can be given to the Post Office to be put in
mailboxes without a name or box number. Notices to a segment of those
populations (i.e. seniors only) must include name and box number.
Student clubs, classes and organizations may distribute notices to their
groups through the campus post office. The notices must indicate name
and box number.
Non-college individuals and groups must have materials distributed through
the College Post Office approved. Approval for materials to be distributed
to:
Faculty/Staff: by the Office of Public Relations
Students: by the Office of Student Activities
General distribution of materials will be done as the College Post Office
has personnel available. All materials with name and box number must be
in box number order when given to the College Post Office.
VI. Electronic Digital
Display
An electronic digital display board is available in the Sheehy-Farmer
Campus Center to promote events. Student organizations may have their
activities promoted on this board. For further information, contact the
Office of Student Activities.
