KING'S COLLEGE MOBILIZES
TO AID THE VICTIMS OF KATRINA
September 8, 2005 – The plight of those
suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina is being addressed by the
King’s College community.
Rev. Richard Hockman, C.S.C., college chaplain and director of Campus Ministry,
is helping to coordinate the relief activities of the College and various campus
groups and organizations. Christine Neidig, Student Body President, and Father
Hockman issued a letter to the King’s College community following a meeting on
September 2 of campus leaders and those in engaged in Campus Ministry and
Volunteer Services announcing that donations are being accepted.
Special collections are being made at the Masses held in the King’s College
Chapel of Christ the King, and students are organizing fund raising events
including a T-shirt sale which began on Sept. 6. The T-shirts carry the name of
King’s College and the logos of Catholic Charities, Red Cross and Holy Cross
Hope Fund – the three organizations benefitting from the T-shirt sale and
other fund drives. (Holy Cross Hope Fund has been established to assist the
recovery of New Orleans Holy Cross institutions — Holy Cross College, Holy
Cross High School and Sacred Heart Parish have all suffered damage.)
This is King’s first response. We are certain that other needs and ways we
might assist will continue to be known. We will attempt to respond to these
ongoing needs. Anyone wishing to contribute to relief efforts at King’s should
contact Father Richard Hockman, C.S.C., King’s College Campus Ministry Office
at the J. Carroll McCormick Campus Ministry Center at Jackson and North Franklin
streets, or call 570 208-5892.
King’s
College is a Catholic college sponsored by the Congregation of Holy Cross.
