A RICH EXPERIENCE IN THE ARTS
PLANNED BY
KING'S COLLEGE IN 2005-2006
August 17, 2005 – The King’s College Experiencing
the Arts program brings the performing arts, theatre, fine arts exhibitions,
and literature to the King’s community and Northeastern Pennsylvania
audiences. The series, in its sixteenth year, features both local and
international talent, and will bring 25 events by artists, actors, and musicians
to King’s College during the 2005-2006 year.
Established artists, emerging artists, painters, and sculptors will be showing
their works in exciting exhibitions throughout the year. Experiencing the
Arts at King’s begins with the exhibition “Colored Pencil Plus”; the
recent works of over 25 members of the Colored Pencil Society of America on view
from Aug. 19 through Oct. 3.
Other exhibitions during the year include oil, pastel, and watercolor works of
Sandy Leonard, Judy Panek, and Jim Rogowski from Oct. 7- Nov. 4; the human
figure and face are presented in a variety of media by Ann Kohut from Jan. 9-
Feb. 2; photography by Jim Gavenus from Feb. 6-28; and the paintings and
drawings of the Pennsylvania En Plein Air Society from May 2- June 2.
The theatre season opens on September 28 with Shakespeare’s Much Ado About
Nothing, with performances Sept. 29, 30, and Oct. 2-4. Full-scale,
full-dress productions by the King’s Players include And Then There Were
None (Nov.16-19), The Lark (Feb. 15-18), and Dearly Departed
(Apr. 5-8).
A warmly received innovation of the King’s College Theatre Department has been
Brown Bag Theatre, a series of noontime, bring-your-lunch, short presentations
that include “The Last Yankee” on Dec. 6-8, “Boy Meets Girl” Feb. 28-
March 2, and “Abstinence” Apr. 26-28.
The Performing Arts are represented in the explosive power of Afro-Brazilian
drum and dance by Nego Gato on Feb. 2. The virtuosity by chamber musicians
Fountain Ensemble on Nov. 10 showcases musical talent on tour, while King’s
own Cantores Christi Regis singers performs classical and contemporary, sacred
and secular music on Dec. 2 and 3. The Saint Bernadine’s Gospel Choir concert
on Oct. 29 includes a repertoire of traditional gospel songs and contemporary
religious compositions.
Admission to King’s performing arts events is free. There is a nominal
admission charge, however, for the College theatre productions. For more
