HIGH SCHOOL SPANISH CONTEST WINNERS

HONORED AT KING'S COLLEGE


15 Wilkes-Barre area students receive Spanish awards

July 15, 2005– The National Spanish Examinations, given locally by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, concluded with 42 chapter winners from a pool of 715 middle and high school students who competed from regional public and private schools.
 
King’s College hosted an authentic Spanish dinner for area Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Spanish Examinations winners and their families at the College’s Sheehy-Farmer Campus Center. Alex Byczkowski, assistant professor of Foreign Languages and Literature at King’s College, is director of the program.
 
Winners from the Wilkes-Barre area include Greater Nanticoke Area: Michael Kmietowicz; Meyers High School: Azucena Vazquez; Wyoming Seminary: Nora Benedict, Carrie Craven, Patrick Grinaway, Chelsea Halsor, Maria Insalaco, Breanne Michalek, Janine Musheno, Lauren Onofrey, Selasi Setranah, Robert Silverblatt, Lindsay Stevens, and Dominick Trombetta; Wyoming Valley West: Amy Salahedin.
 
Participating were schools in the Wilkes-Barre area, Hazleton, Scranton, Pocono, and Allentown area.
