"LEGGIN' IT WITH LEO" FOR BETTER HEALTH
July 8, 2005– King’s College in cooperation
with Steps to a HealthierPA–Luzerne County is inviting faculty, staff, and
administration to join “Leggin’ it with Leo,” a twelve-week health and
wellness program from July 11 through Sept. 30.
Steps to a HealthierPA–Luzerne County s part of a national health promotion
and disease prevention initiative named Steps to a HealthierUS, launched by the
Department of Health and Human Services. This five year cooperative agreement
program aims to help Americans live healthier, longer and better lives by
reducing the burden of diabetes, overweight, obesity and asthma by addressing
three related risk factors of physical inactivity, poor nutrition and tobacco
use and exposure.
“Leggin’ it with Leo” is designed to increase physical activity through
walking. A kickoff rally will be held on Monday, July 11 at 10 a.m. at King’s
Regina Court. Participants will receive a pedometer to track their weekly
progress, a water bottle, and walker’s starter pack, including coupons from
the College and local businesses.
Throughout the program, participants will be entered into drawings to win weekly
prizes including hooded sweatshirts, gift certificates to local restaurants, Red
Barons tickets, movie tickets, and many other great prizes. Also, all
participants who have completed the program will be entered into the grand prize
drawing.
Luzerne County is part of a three county project led by the Pennsylvania State
Department of Health through funding from the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, and Luzerne County is one of 40 projects nationwide awarded Steps
funding.
