KING'S COLLEGE APPOINTS THREE FACULTY TO

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE PROFESSORSHIPS

June 8, 2005 – King’s College Commencement weekend not only celebrates the achievements of its graduating students but also provides an opportunity to acknowledge faculty achievements and career milestones. The Vice President for Academic Affairs invites nominations from the faculty for Distinguished Service Professorship appointments, makes a recommendation to the President who makes the DSP appointments. This year the following faculty were honored with Distinguished Service Professorship awards:

Dr.Christopher Alexander, Associate Professor of Business and Management, received the 2005 Max and Tillie Rosenn Award for Faculty Excellence. The Rosenn Award is conferred each year upon an outstanding member of the King’s faculty. The award was established by the Hon. Max Rosenn, Senior Circuit Judge of the Third District Federal Court.

Dr, Joan Coffin, Director and Associate Professor of Neuroscience, is recipient of the Father Frank J. O'Hara Distinguished Service Professorship. The award, given for a 5-year term, goes to a tenured member of the faculty in the natural sciences in recognition of teaching effectiveness, professional development and scholarship, and a record of service to the College, students and the wider community. The award is named in honor of the first chairman of the science department at King's.

Thomas Visgilio, Associate Professor of Philosophy, will hold The Herve A. LeBlanc Distinguished Service Professorship from 2005-2010. This distinction is awarded to a tenured faculty member in the Liberal Arts in recognition of superior teaching, a record of scholarship and professional activity, and service to the College. The LeBlanc award was established in honor of Father Herve A. LeBlanc, C.S.C. former professor of French for four decades and Academic Dean.
