KING'S COLLEGE OFFERS GRADUATE

CERTIFICATE IN PUBLIC HEALTH ONLINE

Wilkes-Barre, Pa.–June 22 2005 – King’s College Health Care Administration program is offering a new online series of five accelerated graduate courses leading to a Certificate in Public Health. The WebCT course offerings allow students to study online, independently, at any hour, from anywhere to earn graduate credits for the Certificate in Public Health, which can also be counted toward a King’s College master’s degree in Health Care Administration.

The courses are designed for health care professionals seeking advancement in their careers, or graduate students interested in public health and the role of community collaboration in stemming high-risk behaviors and holding-down upward-spiraling health care costs. Accelerated courses in epidemiology, health care policy, community health administration, marketing, and leadership skills in health care management each take only seven weeks to complete.

Dr. Bernard Healey, Chairperson of the Health Care Administration and International Business Programs at King’s College, developed the graduate certificate in Public Health program, which was launched in the summer of 2005. Dr. Healey had over 25 years’ experience in public health before becoming a full-time professor at King’s College. He has written over 100 articles on public health; has published several books on the subject including Children’s Health Problems and Understanding Health Care a Guide for Directors of Health Care Institutions; and established the current Wilkes-Barre City Health Department.

Jacquelyn Borthwick, a graduate of King’s holds an MS in Health Care Administration and one of the first to earn a certificate in public health, says of the online program: “As a graduate student holding-down a full-time job, the online courses allowed me to do the assignments at home at my convenience and earn the Certificate in Public Health to advance my career in a meaningful way.”

King’s College graduate program in Health Care Administration is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Management Education (CAHME) formerly known as the Accrediting Commission on Education for Health Services Administration (ACEHSA), joining institutions such as Boston University, the University of California at Berkeley, Cornell University, Duke University, and University of Pennsylvania. The United States Department of Education recognizes CAHME as the only organization that can accredit master's level health administration programs in the United States and Canada.
