MELANIE MAKUTA OF KING'S
WINS SCHOLARSHIP TO STUDY IN IRELAND
May 10, 2005 – King’s College junior Melanie Makuta has been awarded a full-tuition scholarship to study in Northern Ireland as part of the Irish-American Scholars Program for the 2005-2006 academic year.
Makuta, of Freeland, Pa., is majoring in political science and history at King’s. She will study at Queens University, Belfast, during the 2005-06 academic year.
The Irish-American Scholars Program is sponsored by the Government of Northern Ireland; Ulster and Queen's Universities; The Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education; and the Catholic, United Methodist, and Presbyterian Churches. American colleges and universities that accept students from Northern Ireland through the Business Education Initiative are eligible to participate.
The King's College Study Abroad program, under the direction of Mollie Farmer, has forged strong relationships with affiliated study-abroad institutions in the U.S. and around the world to give King's students useful and valuable educational and internship opportunities through travel and study in other countries.
