SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR

KIDS AT KING'S COLLEGE

May 2, 2005 – As summer approaches, parents are thinking of how to keep their children occupied and happy on those long hot summer days. Local children can enjoy a summer filled with new experiences and great fun in the Kids at King’s 2005 Summer Program.

Kids at King’s will present approximately 40 different classes and workshops for children in grades 3 to 8. They can take part in any of five weekly sessions beginning June 20 and ending the week of July 25, or they can enroll in all five weeks of programs. The summer program meets in the morning from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and afternoon from 1-3:30 p.m. on the King’s College campus.

Among the courses and workshops for younger children in grades 3-5 are titles including: “The World of Spiders,” “Sea Science,” “Inside the Rainforest,” and “Class at Hogwarts.” In addition, workshops in theatre, arts and crafts, dance, and swimming are just a sampling of the offerings for younger participants.

Older students in grades 6-8 will be treated to a full range of subjects and hands-on sessions including video game design, chemistry, magic, Web page design, swimming, along with advanced acting and photography workshops. These are only a few of the offerings designed to engage and challenge older children.

This summer King’s College is pleased to partner with the Bear Creek Nature Center to provide students with full day nature camps at the center. Also, in conjunction with the Wilkes-Barre Rock Climbing Gym, the Kids at King’s Program is excited to offer students an indoor rock climbing camp.

The week of August 1, King’s will host Camp Invention, a summer program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, available in over 800 locations across the country. Camp Invention is a week-long, non-profit summer enrichment day camp that fosters creativity, teamwork, and science literacy for children entering grades 2-6.
