COUNSUL GENERAL OF THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC
TO SPEAK AT KING'S, OCTOBER 26
October 24, 2005 – As part of
King’s College Ethnic Communities Outreach, the First Catholic Slovak Ladies
Association and the Slovak Heritage Society will host a Slovak history lecture
by Ivan Surkos, Consul General of the Slovak Republic. The lecture “Slovakia
since the fall of Communism” will take place at King’s College on Wednesday,
Oct. 26 at 10 a.m. in the Burke Auditorium of the William G. McGowan School of
Business on North River Street.
Prior to his current appointment, Surkos has held diplomatic posts in Yemen,
Iraq and Tunisia. He was the United Nations Department Director at the Foreign
Ministry until his inauguration in Dec. 2003 as Consulate. Surkos specialized in
Middle East and Arabic studies, having a degree from the Law Faculty of
Commenius University in Bratislava and studying at the Institute of
International Relations in Moscow.
Surkos’ lecture is free and open to the public. The Ethnic Communities
Outreach program at King’s College was launched in mid-2002 to explore,
recognize and celebrate the role of ethnic communities and their voluntary
organizations in Northeastern Pennsylvania. For more information, please contact
