May 24, 2012 – The National French Contest, sponsored by the NortheasternPennsylvania Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French, concluded with 50 chapter and 29 national winners from a pool of 465 elementary to high school student entrants from public and private schools in the Wyoming Valley, Milford, Scranton, Pocono, and South Williamsport areas.
Dr. Margaret Corgan, chairperson of the department of foreign languages at King’s, is president of the local chapter and director of the program, which began at King’s in 1969. In that time, more than 24,000 students haveregistered for the test at the College.
Continuing a tradition that began in 1977, King’s College hosted a dinner for area national and chapter French contest winners and guests in the Sheehy-Farmer Campus Center.
Local national winners are: Crestwood: Gavin Lewis; Holy Redeemer: Briana Scorey and Rachel Simon; Wyoming Seminary Lower School: Naomi Dressler, Duncan Lumia, Kyle Hromisin, Meghna Melkote, and Harry Varonides; Wyoming Seminary: Rebecca Barnes, Dominique Coslett, Maxim Crispin, Cassandra Dipippa, Jasmine Hancock, Richard Hughes, Michael Kim, Jessica Kim, Sujay Murthy, Stefan Olsen, Leana Pande, Gabriel Pascal, Philine Partsch, Sukanya Roy, Isaac Sours, Mairead Tuttle, Jamila Wemple, Karin Williner, Chunhui Yu, and Kira Zack.
