March 10, 2017 - Officials of King’s College and Villanova University recently completed an affiliation agreement that will allow either King’s juniors or seniors guaranteed admission and an annual scholarship to Villanova University’s Charles Widger School of Law given they meet grade-point-average and Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) requirements.

The agreement, which is effective immediately, will allow King’s students to enter the Widger School of Law for three years of study to obtain a juris doctor degree following either their junior or senior year at King’s if they achieve a 3.6 grade-point-average (4.0 scale) and at least a 158 LSAT score for juniors or a 154 score for seniors.

Students meeting the requirements following their junior year at King’s will have their application fee to Villanova waived and will receive a guaranteed annual scholarship of $20,000 per year in addition to the financial aid for which they would qualify.  King’s students entering following their senior year will have their application fee waived and will receive a guaranteed $8,000 annual scholarship in addition to their financial aid.

Students entering following their junior year at King’s will have their first 30 credits from Villanova counted toward their bachelor degree requirements at King’s, meaning those students can obtain their bachelor’s degree from King’s and their juris doctor (JD) degree from Villanova in six years.

“We are excited to add the component of a Villanova affiliation agreement to the College’s already existing pre-law program,” said Corry Unis, vice president for enrollment management at King’s.  “The opportunity for King’s students to have a direct pathway to a quality law school like Villanova and the additional enticement of a guaranteed scholarship should be exciting to current King’s students and high school students who want to strive for a career in law.”

The National Law Journal (NLJ) ranked the Charles Widger School of Law as the No. 44 “go-to” law school in its 2017 rankings. This annual report identifies the top 50 law schools with the highest percentage of 2016 JD graduates hired as first-year associates at the nation’s 100 largest law firms.  Villanova is the oldest and largest Catholic University in Pennsylvania.
