King’s College hosts free public concert by renowned sitar and tabla performers

October 22, 2009 – King’s College will host a free public performance by renowned sitar artist Alif Laila and tabla performer Anubrata Chatterjee at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, in the Burke Auditorium of the William G. McGowan School of Business, located on the corner of River and West Union streets.
 
Laila is one of very few female sitar artists in the world today. She has dedicated her life to learning and mastering classical Indian music. She trained for eight years under the late Ustad Mir Qasem Khan in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Laila also earned a bachelor’s degree from The College of Fine Arts, Dhaka.
 
Chatterjee is acclaimed to be one of the best young percussionists in India. He studied under his world-renowned father Pt. Anindo Chatterjee Anubrata and is the recipient of the Presidents Gold Medal and Pandit Nikhil Ghosh Memorial Award in India.
