King's College honored Howard Fedrick for service to society

August 15, 2007 – King's College recently presented Howard Fedrick with the Service to Society award during Reunion Weekend. The award is presented to an alumnus who has distinguished himself through “selfless and caring personal commitment to benefit others.”

A resident of Laflin, Fedrick graduated from King's in 1964 with bachelor of arts degrees in history and government. He has been a faculty member of the history department at King's from 1970-72 and since 1994. He has served on numerous committees and panels at the College and is also the former chairman of King's Faculty Council. He currently serves as the history department's faculty advisor for the Phi Alpha Theta honor society.

Fedrick has dedicated more than 40-years to volunteering his time and talents to more than 20 Wyoming Valley educational and cultural organizations, including the Luzerne County Commission on Economic Opportunity, Catholic Forensic (Speech and Debate) League of Scranton, and Cultural Heritage Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania.  

Fedrick has volunteered in a number of capacities with the Wyoming Valley 's Fine Arts Fiesta for the past 30 years. During the opening ceremonies of this year's 52nd Annual Fine Arts Fiesta on Public Square , Fedrick was presented with an official “Key to the City” by Wilkes-Barre Mayor Thomas Leighton. The award was made by the mayor in recognition of the 11 years of service Fedrick completed as president of the Fiesta's board of directors.
