King’s faculty members Jocelyn Hook and Barbara L. Sauls
receive national recognition as AAPA Distinguished Fellows
May 9, 2008 – King’s College Physician Assistant (PA) faculty members Jocelyn Hook, MPAS, PA-C and Barbara L. Sauls, EdD, PA-C have been recognized as a Distinguished Fellows of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. They earned this recognition due to their outstanding contributions to patient care and the PA profession.
A resident of Swoyersville, Hook was a member of King’s first PA graduating in 1977. She has been teaching at King's for 5 years and is currently assistant clinical professor. She received a master of physician assistant studies from the University of Nebraska. Before coming to King’s, she practiced for 20 years as a PA in Women's Health with Dr. Bonnie Mancia, Women's OBGYN, in Kingston.
Hook has served in various leadership positions in the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants. In addition, she has been active in many community service groups, such as the NEPA Lupus Foundation, Arthritis Foundation and the March of Dimes.
A resident of Mountain Top, Sauls has been a PA for 24 years. She has been teaching full-time at King’s for 16 years and is currently a clinical professor. She was previously employed as a family practice PA with Rural Health Corporation and at the McKinney Clinic for the Homeless.
Sauls’ involvement in the community has included community presentations and serving on the board of directors of the Domestic Violence Service Center.
To be named a Distinguished Fellow of AAPA, a person must demonstrate exceptional contributions to his or her community and a commitment to all aspects of health care.
AAPA is the only national organization representing physician assistants in all medical and surgical specialties and is one of the largest medical societies in the U.S. Founded in 1968, the Academy works to promote quality, cost effective health care and the professional and personal growth of PAs.
