Q: What health services are available on campus? A: All students are eligible to use the services provided at the Student Health Center. Care consists of treatment of illness, injuries, ordering of routine laboratory work (which is collected and processed at a local hospital), and referral to outside physicians or hospitals. The Health Center is staffed by registered nurses and part-time certified physician assistants Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m to 4:30 p.m. The cost for services at the health center is covered by the health fee required of all resident students. Commuter and off-campus students may also use the Student Health Center either by paying the semester fee or a per-visit fee. Fees for laboratory costs and doctor visits are not covered in the health fee and are the responsibility of the student. Q: Can students receive allergy injections at the Health Center? A: Special arrangements for allergy shots can be made at the Health Center and are conducted by the medical staff under the supervision of the physician assistants. Allergy serums may be stored at the Health Center. Q: What happens to students who are too ill to stay in the residence halls? A: Depending upon the nature and/or seriousness of the illness, a student can be admitted to one of the local hospitals or sent home. Q: How do students get to local hospitals or to medical appointments off-campus? A: The College provides the cost of taxi fare to and from local hospitals or medical appointments for resident students. Q: What is covered by the King's College's insurance policy? A: All full-time students attending the College are covered by a basic accident policy. The coverage includes all accidents on campus and College related accidents off campus. There is no cost to students or parents for this insurance. Q: Are students required to have health insurance? A: Yes, all resident students must have health insurance either on their own, through their parents or with the Blue Cross/Blue Shield policy mentioned above. |
