Q: How does my son or daughter become aware of the College regulations? A: College regulations are published in the Student Handbook which is distributed to students and appears on the King's website. The handbook contains the regulations and policies that deal with students behavior outside of the classroom. Academic policies are published in the College catalogue. Changes in College policies are distributed to students via memo in their campus mailbox or posted on primary bulletin boards on campus. Q: What is the college policy regarding alcoholic beverages? A: Alcohol may not be consumed on campus or at College functions by students who are under the legal age, which is 21 in Pennsylvania. Students who are 21 years of age or older may consume alcohol in their residence hall room or at senior class socials which are registered with the Student Affairs Office. Students who violate the College alcohol policy will be fined and issued additional disciplinary sanctions. King's College's complete alcohol policy is included in the Student Handbook provided to all students. Q: What is the college policy on drugs? A: College regulations prohibit the use of drugs not prescribed by a physician for health reasons. The College cooperates with civil authorities in drug investigations. King's College's complete drug policy is included in the Student Handbook and Alcohol and Drug Policy Publication provided to all students. Q: What type of disciplinary actions may be taken by King's College? A: College disciplinary actions include fines, community service, warnings, probations, and other sanctions, including expulsion. In the case of a student being placed on disciplinary probation, the parents or guardian of the student is notified. Q: Does the college discipline my son or daughter for misbehavior that occurs off campus? A: Yes. The College disciplines students for misbehavior off campus in certain situations. For example, if a student receives a citation or is arrested by the civil authorities or a complaint is received from another source, the College will discipline students. The standards of the College must apply both off campus and in the community in which the College is a member. Q: In what situations are parents notified concerning a student's behavior? A: The College must adhere to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (a federal law) that restricts access to student records. The College will notify parents if their son or daughter is placed on disciplinary probation for a violation of College regulations. In other situations, the College will only notify a parent/guardian if the student is unable to make a decision due to mental or physical reasons. |
