What is the schedule of classes?
The Kids at King’s program runs for six weeks over the summer, five days a week, with both morning and afternoon sessions. Each session runs 2.5 hours – the morning session runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and the afternoon session runs from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. The Summer 2012 schedule is offered the following weeks:
July 30-August 3
Do I have to sign up my child for all six weeks, and for the full day?
You may register your child for as few or as many classes as you like. Students may take just a morning class or just an afternoon class, and they may come for one week, two weeks, or all six weeks. It’s up to you and your child to decide how many and which classes to take.
What is the minimum/maximum number of students in a class?
Generally a class needs six students registered for the class to run. The maximum number per class is determined by the instructor, but in most cases it is around 12.
How much does a class cost?
The base cost for a class is $80. Many classes also have a materials or supplies fee added to the cost, so some classes have a higher fee.
Where and when do I drop off and pick up my child?
The drop-off and pick-up point is Holy Cross Hall, which is located at the cul-de-sac on North Franklin Street, just beyond West Union Street. Students attending a morning session should not be dropped off any earlier than 9:20, and should be picked up no later than 12:10. Students attending an afternoon session should not be dropped off any earlier than 12:50, and should be picked up no later than 3:40.
What if I need to drop off or pick up my child earlier or later than those times?
Kids at King’s offers an early drop-off and late pick-up option for an additional fee. The early drop-off option allows you to bring your child at 8:30 a.m., and the late pick-up option allows you to leave your child with us until 4:30 p.m. The cost is $15 per week for either the early drop-off or the late pick-up, or $30 for both.
If my child attends both a morning and an afternoon class, what happens at lunchtime?
Students who attend both the morning and afternoon session have a one hour lunch period from noon to 1:00. During this time students are supervised by staff from the Kids at King’s program. Lunch takes place in the Sheehy-Farmer Campus Center. Students may bring their lunch with them or purchase their lunch. Typical lunch cost is approximately $6.00 per day.
What do you expect from the children who participate in Kids at King’s?
We expect all students to show cooperation, respect for others, and a willingness to participate in all activities. Inappropriate behavior will be addressed on an individual basis and could involve a warning, a phone call to parents, or dismissal from the program.
Are cell phones allowed?
During class time, cell phone use is prohibited and phones must be turned off. Cell phone use is permitted during the lunch hour, and during the early drop-off/late pick-up periods.
How will I know if a class is running, and if my child got into the class(es) s/he selected?
You will receive a confirmation by e-mail approximately one week prior to the start of the first class.
How should my child dress for classes?
Your child should dress in comfortable, casual clothing, and for safety purposes, we ask that all children wear closed-toe shoes. Please, no flip-flops or Heelys. Certain instructors do make particular recommendations for attire – that information is included in the description for the class.
What if my child’s class is cancelled or the schedule is changed?
In some instances a class may be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances or low enrollment. If this happens, you can either transfer to another class or receive a refund.
