New Viruses & Spy Ware - Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) |
We have recently seen an increase in e-Mail traffic with attached viruses and spy ware. The latest scheme involves sending Adobe Acrobat files attached to e-Mail messages. These Adobe Acrobat files typically end in .pdf and may contain viruses. We have see such e-Mail subjects as “Unpaid Invoice” or “A relative has sent you an e-card” intended to trick you into opening the attached files. As always, we recommend you not open any attachment you are not expecting, even if it appears to come from someone you know. IITS is working to tune our anti-spam and anti-virus software to block these messages in the future. |

Are you locked out of WebAdvisor? |
Recently there has been some confusion logging into WebAdvisor that we’d like to clear up. IF you make a mistake typing your password FIVE times logging into WebAdvisor, your WebAdvisor account will be locked. This is done to prevent someone from guessing another users password. At that point, you can login with your correct password OR click on the What’s My Password? link in the lower right corner of the WebAdvisor screen. This link will allow you to show your password hint, reset your password or setup your password if you are a first time WebAdvisor user. Also please be aware that if there is a hold on your account such as a business office hold, you will not be able to login to WebAdvisor until 24 hours AFTER that hold is cleared. If all of this fails to get you in to WebAdvisor please contact the HELP line. |

FACULTY/STAFF - How to Move your Web Site |
King’s College is in the process to moving to a new collegiate web page. As part of this move we are making some changes to better organize the various types of web pages at the college. Currently a faculty/staff web page has a web address of www.kings.edu/username where username is your network login username. When the conversion is complete, only college web pages will be found under the www.kings.edu web area. All faculty and staff pages will be moving to staff.kings.edu/username as part of the total web conversion. Since there are currently a considerable number of abandon web pages, we are asking for your assistance in this moving process. If you want your faculty/staff web page moved to the new format please contact the HELP (help@kings.edu or xHELP) line by October 16th. ALL faculty/staff web pages not moved by the launch date of the new collegiate web site, will not be available after the launch date. Any faculty/staff that DO contact the HELP line will have their web site moved to staff.kings.edu/username by the launch date. If you contact the HELP line you will be asked for 3 pieces of information: 1)The address of your website (www.kings.edu/username).
2) Whether your web site uses Microsoft FrontPage or not.
3) If you need your new page redirected from the old web address. This option will allow anyone that types in your old web address to be redirected to the new web address. This option is intended for anyone that has given out their old web address (www.kings.edu/username) to enough people to make it difficult to give out their new address in a short period of time. |

NEW and FREE Anti-Virus Software available now! |
King’s College has upgraded it’s FREE Sophos Anti-Virus software to a newer version. This newer version will provide more current anti-virus protection for your computer and continues to be FREE to King’s College students, faculty and staff for their residence hall or home computers. While the current version of Sophos will continue to protect your machine we do recommend you install the new version of Sophos on any machine that has the older version or does not have a current Anti-virus software package installed. In the future Sophos will no longer support the older version so we do recommend that everyone migrate to the new version. To install the latest version of sophos you can go to sophos.kings.edu (or click on the link below) for download and installation instructions. IITS has also distributed CD’s to the residence hall assistants and counselors. These CDs will allow you to disinfect your machine, install the latest version of Sophos, and scan your machine for Spyware or required Windows updates. Don’t let your computer get caught without Anti-virus protection.

Death, Taxes and Passwords ! |
Death, Taxes and Passwords. There used to be 2 constants in life, death and taxes. A few years ago IITS added a 3rd; password changes. Just a reminder that the forced password change will happen for most users right around tax Day (April 15th). All passwords will expire a year from when they were last changed, so depending on when you last changed your password you may or may not be forced to change it again on or around April 15th. You will not be allowed to reuse a previous password and your new password must be at least 5-characters in length.
