The NHSC offers a competitive scholarship program designed for students committed to providing primary health care in communities of greatest need. Scholarship recipients serve where they are most needed upon completion of their training.

The program offers the following benefits for up to 4 years of education:

Applicants must be within the ages of 16 to 25and be accepted by an accredited, post-secondary educational institution.

NASA -MUST Scholarship- Deadline February 2, 2009

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is sponsoring the Motivating Undergraduates in Science and Technology (MUST) Program, offering support to undergraduate students in science, technology, engineering and math disciplines.

Program participants receive a scholarship, NASA internship and access to a wealth of professional development opportunities. The Program offers:

A one year competitive scholarship covering up to one-half of tuition and fees, not to exceed $10,000 per academic year.

The Point Foundation, The National LGBT Scholarship Fund - Deadline February 9, 2009

New Economy Technology Scholarship (NETS) - Deadline: December 31, 2008

Established to prepare Pennsylvania Students to succeed in the technology-based economy of the 21st century and to reduce the migration of Pennsylvania's young people to other states.

The SciTech Scholarship and the Technology Scholarship are administered jointly by Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) and the PA Department of Education (PDE).

To qualify, a student must:

1. Be a resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

2. Be a high school graduate.

3. Be at least a sophomore who is enrolled as full-time student pursuing a bachelor's degree in an approved science or technology field at an approved Pennsylvania public or private college or university.

4. Have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the time of application and maintain at least that average throughout post secondary study.

5. Complete an approved internship or relevant work experience in a field related to the student's major with a Pennsylvania company prior to receiving a degree.

6. Begin employment in the state within one year after completion of studies, one year for each year that the scholarship was awarded.

7. Apply for a Federal Pell Grant and Pennsylvania State Grant.

The scholarship will convert to a loan if a student fails to satisfy the requirements of the eligible program or fails to perform the internship or work obligation.

Eligibility
For outstanding students currently attending an eligible Datatel client institution, the Datatel Scholars Foundation scholarship is open to fulltime and part-time students (taking at least six credit hours), as well as undergraduate and graduate students.

Personal Statement Essay
The Datatel Scholars Foundation scholarship personal statement essay should summarize educational goals and objectives, where the applicant has been as an individual, and where they hope their education will take them. They should also indicate the difference a Datatel scholarship would make in their life and to those around them.

Award Amount
The applications for the Datatel Scholars Foundation scholarship are divided into three groups based on the undergraduate tuition at the college or university the applicant attends.   Each group receives scholarships and the Datatel Scholars Foundation Board of Directors determines the number of scholarships each year. Eligibility:

AAPA Veterans Caucus Scholarship - Deadline: March 1

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Any Honorably Discharged Veteran of any Uniformed Service of the United States, or active member of the Guard or Reserve of any Uniformed Service of the United States enrolled in Physician Assistant Training at an accredited PA program in the USA;

Price Chopper's Golub Foundation is offering ten scholarships to students who live within our marketing area. Eight of these scholarships are for graduating high school seniors planning on attending college as fully matriculated students for the Fall 2009 semester.

American Chemical Society Scholarship - Deadline March 1

The scholarship is designed to encourage African-American, Hispanic, and Native American students to pursue undergraduate college degrees in the chemical sciences.

The American Chemical Society Scholars Program will award approximately 100 scholarships to undergraduate students interested in four-year degrees in the chemical sciences; those interested in transferring from two-year colleges to four-year colleges to pursue chemical science degrees; and to two-year students intending to pursue degrees in chemical technology. High school seniors who will be entering college are also eligible. The scholarship is valued at up to $2500 per academic year for freshman and up to $3000 per academic y ear for sophomores and up to $5000 per academic year for juniors and seniors.

A chemical science degree includes the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, environmental science and toxicology. For those chemical science specialties no listed, there must be a strong component of chemistry included in the program in order to meet our definition of chemical science.

The John Heinz Institute Auxiliary, in 1990 established the Rose Brader Scholarship Fund to contribute to the health care needs of the community, by encouraging and providing financial assistance to those who wish to pursue an education in or seek advanced training in the field if rehabilitation medicine. The Fund is named in honor of Rose Brader, a former Director of Volunteer Services at the John Heinz Institute, who was an outstanding community leader with a strong commitment to the advancement of rehabilitation medicine.

The Fund is offering on $1,000.00 scholarship and two $500.00 scholarships to Luzerne County residents who are pursuing an education in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Recreation Therapy, or Speech Therapy at an undergraduate or graduate and to nurses seeking advanced education and certification in rehabilitation medicine. Winning a scholarship neither mandates nor guarantees employment at the John Heinz Institute.

He or she will be judged on the following: scholastic achievement, demonstrated interest in rehabilitation medicine, financial need and references. A personal interview, for finalists only, are required.

Appalachian Health Care Human Resources Society Scholarship - Deadline March 29, 2008

The Appalachian Health Care Human Resources Society, an organization comprised of over 100 Human Resources professionals from the Central Pennsylvania region, is once again offering scholarships to individuals majoring in Human Resources or a related field. This scholarship is established in memory of Dean Stultz and Samuel Griggs, former members of the society.

Applicants must be majoring in Human Resources (or a related field), in at least their junior year of study and enrolled in an accredited college or university located within Pennsylvania . Graduate students majoring in Human Resources are eligible as well.

The Northern Tier Hardwood Association of Pennsylvania is offering two $500 scholarships to students majoring in forest management, forest products, or a closely related field. Horvat Scholarship Fund - Deadline April 1, 2009
                 
Requirements:

Students must have a declared science major. By science students, it is meant a field of study in chemistry, physics, biology, the life sciences, or some other related major leading to a career in the medical or health profession.

Financial Need- family income of qualifying students cannot exceed amounts set by Trustees. Current income limitations are: $64,079 for one dependent, $67,920 for two dependents, and $71, 695 for three or more dependents.

Residency- students must reside in Duryea or within certain surrounding areas specific under the foundation rules.

Grades- high school students must maintain grades that fall within the top 10% of their class and be participating in a curriculum which would qualify them for acceptance into a science related field. College students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Koster Insurance 2008 Health Careers Scholarship Program - Deadline May 9, 2009

Each scholarship recipient is selected by the Scholarship Program Board of Directors, and each recipient both demonstrates and exceeds the program standards, which include: a strong motivation to pursue a healthcare career, academic excellence, a dedication to community service, and a need for financial support of their education.

Scholarship winners, beyond receiving their monetary award, are invited to attend a Winner’s Reception and Dinner, where they are honored and given the opportunity to meet the Koster Staff, the Scholarship Board Members, and other Koster Friends and Associates.  Five scholarships are available at $3,000 each.

Eligibility:

The 2009 Scholarship Program is open to all full-time undergraduate students who are entering their Junior or Senior Year of their undergraduate study in the Fall of 2008. If the student is in a program that is not a 4-year program, they are eligible if they will be entering either their final year of undergraduate study or their second-to-last year of undergraduate study in the Fall of 2009. Please note that the Scholarship Program is not open to first-year undergraduates, high school students, or graduate study students.

Students must be enrolled in an accredited institution in a program of study that prepares them for a career in health care. Examples of qualifying degree programs include, but are not limited to pre-medicine, nursing, public/community health, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy, biology, chemistry, psychology, social work, dentistry, and optometry.

Students eligible to be considered for the award must demonstrate financial need. Financial need will be determined using information provided by the school’s Financial Aid office on the form provided in the scholarship application materials.

Students must also meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards set by their institution and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).

Big 33 Football Classic $33,000 Halftime Kick Contest - Deadline June 2

Registration is open for the Big 33 $33,000 Halftime Kick to be held on June 16 th at the PNC Big 33 Football Classic in Hershey , PA.

Twenty-one contestants will be selected to participate in the half-time activities, but only one of those contestants will have the opportunity to kick a field goal for a $33,000 scholarship. A missed kick will still earn the kicker a $3,300 scholarship.

Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund

The Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund® benefits financially needy dependent children, spouses, and domestic partners (1) of 9/11 victims, including airplane crew and passengers, World Trade Center and Pentagon workers and visitors, and relief workers, including firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and law enforcement personnel.

Families of Freedom Scholarships are available for children, including those born after September 11, 2001, who enroll in a program of postsecondary study by age 24. Those children who turn 24 during their course of study must then continue their program of study uninterrupted, with the exception of summer vacations, in order to continue receiving scholarship assistance. Spouses and domestic partners may apply for Families of Freedom scholarships through 2012. 

Scholarships may be used to attend an accredited vocational-technical school, trade school, two-year college, four-year college, or university located in the United States.  Families of Freedom Scholarship recipients may receive scholarship awards for up to four years, or the equivalent if attendance is part-time, depending on total funding available.  Funds are available for undergraduate study only.
