All incoming students are required to attend a Summer Advisement Session which will last approximately a total of 3 hours. The session is composed of four parts: (click on each for more detailed information)
All incoming freshmen are required to take a writing, math, and grammar placement test. Transfer students who have not taken a college level writing class will take the writing placement test only. Each test will determine if a student must take a preliminary course in each of these areas. NOTE: Calculators are NOT permitted.
This short information session will cover topics such as meal plans, resident and commuter questions, billing, payment plans, and financial aid. Parents and/or family members may attend this session while the students are taking their placement tests.
After the placement tests, each student will meet with an advisor to select classes for the fall semester. Parents are welcome to attend this session. During this meeting, the advisor will discuss the requirements for the student’s selected major and the general CORE requirements for graduation. NOTE: Choice of courses is subject to availability. Students should inform the advisor if they have taken any of the following:
- AP (Advance Placement) courses
- Courses at another college/university
- Courses at King’s College through the College Discovery Program.
- *It is preferred that all incoming students have any AP credits or college credits (King’s or other institutions) evaluated by the Registrar’s Office prior to their appointment to ensure proper advisement.
The number of students in each training session is limited in order to provide accurate, personal advisement. Therefore, we encourage students to schedule an appointment online or by calling the Academic Advisement Office at 570-208-5872 as soon as possible (Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.). Please have alternate dates available in the event we cannot accommodate your first request. The sessions begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 for all Physician Assistant major and at 9:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. for all other majors including undeclared students. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment. For information on parking, directions, and a campus map, go to: Directions and Campus Map for Summer Advisement.
