How did you select your Study/Intern Abroad location?
Basically, it was the only place I was allowed to go being that I was a freshman. Yet despite my limitation to choice, the place chosen by the faculty was an excellent choice!
Why did you want to study or intern abroad?
I wanted to study abroad for a variety of reasons. One of those reasons was that I really wanted to immerse myself in another culture and language. I wanted to experience life on the other side of the map, and see things from a different perspective.
What were the highlights of this experience?
Some of the highlights of this experience were getting to see such amazing things such as Lake Titicaca, and downtown Lima. Also I must say that just observing the people around me on a day to day basis was one of the most interesting and beneficial things for me as well.
What surprised you the most?
What surprised me the most was the level of poverty in some areas. I understood the fact that there were economic problems. However I wasn’t expecting to see so many dogs in the streets and the lack of shelter for many.
How has (or how might) this experience affect your major and future career?
I will definitely take the memories and lessons learned from this experience throughout my career and life. It gave me an insight into the kinds of situations that are out there in certain parts of the world. I want to work in the field of international relations, so I gained a better insight into how things are in a developing country.
What would you tell students considering studying or interning abroad?
I would say if you have even the slightest interest in studying abroad, pursue it! You won’t be sorry you did. When you are studying abroad you truly grow as a person and you will end up learning things about yourself, the world, and also expand a great deal on your education.
