John Cabot University
How did you select your Study/Intern Abroad location?
I selected John Cabot University in Rome, Italy, because a friend of mine had had a wonderful experience with the university. I also always wanted to explore Italy.
Why did you want to study or intern abroad?
I felt studying abroad was an excellent way for me to become independent and experience a different culture. I also love art in all forms and wanted to experience Italian art firsthand.
What were the highlights of this experience?
Traveling on the weekends to different parts of Italy were my favorite times spent there. The major highlight of this experience took place in Positano on the Southern coast of Italy. I took a private boat tour with some friends, and we went cliff jumping.
What surprised you the most?
Traveling to different parts of Italy was relatively easy. I thought the language barrier and also my lack of knowledge of the area would be a major problem. Booking hostels, buying train and plane tickets was very easy.
How has (or how might) this experience affect your major and future career?
I am an education major, and the class I took in Rome was a Baroque Rome and Monuments course. I have always loved art and somehow wish to incorporate it into my curriculum. The art history lessons I experienced were priceless, and hopefully I can share that same knowledge with my future students.
What would you tell students considering studying or interning abroad?
I strongly urge students considering studying abroad to apply. Also, it is important to plan ahead and research both the study abroad programs and the places you are thinking of visiting.
