How did you select your Study/Intern Abroad location?

The History/ Sociology departments were offering a program going to Bulgaria and Turkey, and I figured since I had never been to either place, why not go!?

Why did you want to study or intern abroad?

Being a History and Secondary Education major, there are a lot of classes I have to fit into four years so, since I love to travel, I decided the best way to earn credits and travel at the same time was to study abroad!

What were the highlights of this experience?

Learning some Bulgarian and hearing Muslims being called to prayer in Turkey.

What surprised you the most?

The Bulgarian language. I knew it was different, but I did not realize it was so different. Bulgarian uses the Cyrillic alphabet, so words could not be read phonetically by the alphabet I was used to in America.

How has (or how might) this experience affect your major and future career?

I am hoping to be a cultural anthropologist/ history teacher, so learning about different cultures is perfect for what I want to teach kids about.

What would you tell students considering studying or interning abroad?

One hundred percent worth it!
