Not necessarily. Although many of the programs in which students study have a language requirement, many programs do not. In these cases, you may study the language while you are there; however, the language of instruction is English. Classes at our affiliate programs are taught in English, with courses offered in the language of the host country.
Most programs require that you have at least junior standing (60 credit hours) before departure.
You are required to take a full-time course load while abroad.
Absolutely! You receive credit for all course work abroad, provided that you earn a grade of “C” or better.
Yes! All of the grades you receive while studying abroad on an affiliated program count. These grades will appear on your transcript and are calculated into your King’s grade point average. If you study under a non-affiliated program, you will receive transfer credit for your course work.
With careful planning and advising from your academic advisor, you can make normal progress toward graduation. It is important to speak with your academic advisor because the application of credits earned abroad toward major or graduation requirements depends upon departmental criteria.
Before your departure, the Registrar’s Office is notified of your participation. Your status as a study abroad participant will be noted on your student records and transcript. You will continue to be enrolled and registered at King’s while abroad.
Housing options vary according to the country. Some programs offer dormitory or apartment style accommodations, while other programs provide the homestay option.
Certainly! Most students find time to travel during school breaks and at the end of the semester.
King’s offers both short-term and full-year programs. Typically, most students spend a semester abroad.
By coming home in the middle of the program, you are essentially withdrawing from King’s. However, in an emergency, you may receive authorization from the College to return home. These situations will be handled case by case.
Yes, but please be aware that you may only transfer a maximum of 60 credit hours. If you have already transferred the maximum number of credits, you should look into the affiliated programs. With affiliated programs, you receive grades and King’s College credits, not transfer credits.
If you are studying through an affiliated program, you pay the regular King's College tuition directly to King's. King's aid may be adjusted relative to the cost of the study abroad program selected. If you are a participant in the London Internship Program, room costs are included in the King's tuition. If you are participating in the Student Teaching Program in Ireland, room costs and meals are included in the King's tuition. Participants in programs with Webster University, John Cabot University, the University of Notre Dame Australia, Saint Louis University-Madrid, and Denmark 's International Study Program will pay room costs directly to them. All other costs for the London, Ireland, Webster, John Cabot, Notre Dame, Denmark, and Saint Louis programs, such as board, books, round-trip transportation, insurance, personal expenses, etc., are your responsibility. If you are studying through a non-affiliated program, the tuition cost will vary from program to program. Your financial aid package - state and federal grants and loans - will generally apply toward some of the costs of affiliated and non-affiliated programs.
Once you have decided that you want to study abroad, you will need to begin researching the many wonderful programs available to you. King's offers affiliated and non-affiliated study programs from which to choose, many of which are included on this site. There are many other opportunities that have not been included here so if we do not have information on the program that interests you, we will obtain it.
