How did you select your Study/Intern Abroad location?

I picked going to South Africa because of the service learning program. The fact that it took place in South Africa was an added bonus because I got to travel to a place I have only dreamed about visiting.

Why did you want to study or intern abroad?

I have had a previous experience abroad from high school, and I was ready for another. Also my sister and many friends have been abroad and really encouraged me to do so.

What was the highlight of this experience?

Aside from meeting new people and making new friends, the bonds I made with my adult IT learner was my highlight. Even though we only worked together for a week I learned so much from him, and we still keep in touch.

What surprised you the most?

The local people were so friendly and open with everyone. No topic of conversation was off limits. They are also very interested in America and what it means to be American, all the while still having such a strong heritage.

How has (or how might) this experience affect your major and future career?

Personally I have grown in so many ways from my time in South Africa; it has changed me for the better. I do not know exactly how it will affect my future except that my desire to help people less fortunate than I has increased.

What would you tell students considering studying or interning abroad?

Definitely do it!!! This trip was a life changing experience for me, the best thing I ever did. South Africa was a great place; everyone should go!
