The King’s Players will perform Ibsen’s ‘An Enemy of the People’ Nov. 18-21
November 4, 2009 – The King’s College Players will continue the theatre season with a full-dress production of Henrik Ibsen’s ground-breaking play, “An Enemy of the People.” The play, which explores the ethical dilemma between truth and prosperity, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18-21, in the King’s Theatre, located in the Administration Building on North River Street.
Written by Ibsen and adapted by master playwright Arthur Miller, “An Enemy of the People” is set in a small Norwegian town that has just begun to win fame and wealth as a result of its medicinal spring waters. Unfortunately, resident physician Dr. Stockmann discovers that the water is actually poisoned.
Dr. Stockmann attempts to expose the truth to save the town; however, his brother, who also happens to be the town’s mayor, tells him he must retract his statements because the repairs would be too expensive. Blackmailed and facing eviction from his home, Dr. Stockmann, through the moral support of his family, carries on his fight for the truth.
King’s Theatre Department brings a cast of 20 students to the stage. Cast members include Colin Walsh, Northampton (Dr. Thomas Stockmann); Ashley Owens, Oradell, N.J., (Catherine Stockmann); Jason Alfano, Pittston (Mayor Peter Stockmann); Brandon Leon-Gambetta, Newton, Conn., (Morten Kiil); and, Lukas Tomasacci, Shickshinny (Captain Horster).
Ticket prices are $10; students/senior citizens, $5. For more information or to reserve tickets, call the box office at (570) 208-5825 or e-mail boxoff@kings.edu.
