Award-winning author ZZ Packer to give free public reading at King’s

October 7, 2009 – Noted fiction author ZZ Packer will read excerpts from her work and answer questions from the audience during a free public reading at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, in the Burke Auditorium of the King’s College William G. McGowan School of Business on North River Street. Packer is a guest of the 2009 Visiting Writer Program of the King’s College English Department.
 
ZZ Packer is the author of “Drinking Coffee Elsewhere,” a New York Times Notable Book, a Commonwealth Club Fiction Award and ALEX Award winner, and PEN/Faulkner Award finalist. Her fiction and nonfiction have appeared in a variety of publications, including “The New Yorker,” “Harper’s,” “Ploughshares,” “The American Prospect,” and “O.”
 
She is the recipient of a Whiting Award, a Rona Jaffe Award, and the National Book Award Foundation’s inaugural 5 Under 35 prize. She is the recent recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship.
 
After earning a bachelor’s degree from Yale University, Packer’s graduate work includes a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Fine Arts from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop of the University of Iowa. She was named a Stegner Fellow at Stanford University.
