Dr. Roberto Goizueta to deliver annual Moreau Lectures at King’s, Nov. 4

October 21, 2009 – Dr. Roberto Goizueta, the Margaret Flatley O'Brien Professor of Catholic Theology at Boston College, will address theological and ecclesiastic matters of immigration during two free public lectures at King’s College on Wednesday, Nov. 4, in the Burke Auditorium of The William G. McGowan School of Business on North River Street. Parking will be available at on-campus lots.

At 3:30 p.m., Goizueta explores contemporary implications of taking seriously Jesus Christ’s identity as someone from the borderlands. At 7:30 p.m., he will discuss the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe and other examples of Hispanic popular Catholicism. Goizueta is the 31st speaker in the history of the Moreau lecture series at King’s College.

A native of Havana, Cuba, Goizueta received a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and master and doctorate degrees from Marquette University. He has served as President of both the Catholic Theological Society of America and the Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians of the United States.

Goizueta was named one of the 10 most influential Hispanic-American educators, pastors, and theologians by “The National Catholic Reporter.” His recent book, “Christ Our Companion: Toward a Theological Aesthetics of Liberation,” was recently published by Orbis Books.

The Moreau Lecture Series brings renowned theologians to the King’s campus to address issues of social justice, peace, morality, Catholic identity, the role of women in the Catholic Church, as well as other subjects relevant to the lives of students, Catholics and all other people concerned with the significant issues facing the Church and society today.

The King’s College Moreau Lecture program is named in honor of Blessed Father Basil Anthony Moreau, founder of the Holy Cross Community that established King’s College. For further information on the Moreau Lectures, contact Rev. Daniel Issing, C.S.C., assistant professor of theology, at (570) 208-5900, ext. 5491, or e-mail DanielIssing@kings.edu.
