King’s Launches Application for Facebook

October 27, 2009 - King’s College has joined with Varsity Outreach to develop a Facebook application which allows potential students and their families to use the popular social networking site to gather information about the College and to communicate with other visitors to the site.

The application, available at http://apps.facebook.com/kingscollege, is open to any Facebook subscriber and will allow prospective and admitted students to search for and connect with others who may share their academic and/or extracurricular interests.  Potential students and family members can also communicate with members of the King’s admissions staff and current King’s students.

“After evaluating the effectiveness of Facebook as a recruitment tool, King’s decided to partner with Varsity Outreach in an effort to reach more of our potential students by communicating through a medium that is familiar and comfortable for them,” said Michelle Lawrence-Schmude, dean of admissions at King’s.

Visitors to the site can post comments on the “wall” portion of the site, link to sections of the King’s website containing items of interest to prospective students and watch King’s-themed videos.

“The King’s Facebook application is a safe environment for users,” said Mark Rothbaum, president of Varsity Outreach, the company that developed the application.  “Users are not sharing their Facebook profile with the College.  They can easily opt in or out of the application.  If they remove the application, they no longer appear in any searches and their information is no longer available.”

King's College is a Catholic College sponsored by the Congregation of Holy Cross.
