October 14, 2009 - More than 50 King’s College students participated in the first-ever Career Day sponsored recently by the College’s Washington, D.C., Area Alumni Club. Fifty two King’s students representing 19 academic majors participated in the first of what is planned as an annual event. The students attended an opening reception which featured guest speaker U.S. Congressman Patrick Murphy, a 1996 King’s graduate. Twenty four Washington area alumni hosted the students in their homes that evening. The program the next day featured 18 speakers including U.S. Congressman Paul Kanjorski. Topics covered in the general sessions included the Washington job market, applying for federal jobs, ethical standards of government service, the legislative process and responsible legislative conduct, and accountability in government service. Students also had an opportunity to participate in breakout sessions on job opportunities in the fields of corporate finance, education, financial services, information technology, journalism, defense, government contracts, lobbying, and marketing.
