June 5, 2009 - Father Patrick Sullivan, C.S.C., coordinator of the Ethnic Community Outreach program at King’s College, has been appointed by Cardinal Sean O’Malley to become the Executive Secretary and Chaplain of The Labor Guild. Father Sullivan will oversee the finances of the Guild, act as a liaison with other labor organizations and become a member of all Labor Guild board committees. "Father Sullivan's work in Ethnic Community Outreach at King's College was deeply appreciated by so many in our community who value the preservation of our ethnic heritages,“ said Father Thomas O’Hara, C.S.C., president of King’s. “In addition, Father Sullivan gave over 20 years of service to King's College as a valued faculty member, board member, and liaison to the local community. We are deeply grateful for his dedicated service to King's and our local community and assure him of our prayers and best wishes as he assumes his important role in Boston." A noted labor rights scholar and practitioner, Sullivan is also a member of the steering committee of the Catholic Scholars for Worker Justice and has been active locally in labor management issues. A former faculty member and associate director of the Higgins Labor Research Center at the University of Notre Dame, Sullivan has authored several books on the Catholic Church and labor management relations, including “U.S. Catholic Institutions and Labor Unions, 1960-1980,” “Blue Collar-Roman Collar-White Collar: U.S. Catholic Involvement in Labor Management” and “Catholic Social Teaching on Labor-Management Issues: Vatican & International Hierarchies.” He soon plans to publish “Labor Priests from 1900 to the 1960s,” the first of three books on the subject of labor priests.King's College is a Catholic College sponsored by the Congregation of Holy Cross. |
