Valvano of Dallas awarded $2,000 scholarship

May 19, 2009 – Camille Valvano of Dallas was recently awarded the 5th Annual PATS Northeast Pennsylvania Athletic Training 5K Run/ 1Mile Walk Scholarship in the amount of $2,000. She is the first King’s College student to win the scholarship in the event’s five-year history.  
 
The scholarship is awarded to a student who has shown significant initiative and service in promoting the athletic training profession and has demonstrated academic excellence. The student must be enrolled in one of the four accredited athletic training education programs within Northeast Pennsylvania, which are Alvernia College, East Stroudsburg University, King’s College, and Marywood University.  
 
Valvano is member of the Iota Tau Alpha Athletic Training Education Honor Society and is a Dean’s List student. Her case study, titled “Partial Tear of the Latissimus Dorsi from the Costal Origin in a Collegiate Football Player” won the Best Undergraduate Poster at the Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association Annual Convention held in January in Boston, Mass.
 
Camille was also the recipient of King’s Distinguished Achievement Award in Athletic Training Education. This award is given to the graduating senior who has the highest cumulative grade point average in King’s Athletic Training program. She will also be awarded an additional $2,000 scholarship from the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society at the organizations annual symposium held in June in Johnstown, Pa.
 
Camille will pursue a master’s of science degree in athletic training at the University of South Carolina, where she received a full-tuition scholarship to work as an athletic training graduate assistant.
